North Area (Pomerania and Masuria)

Pomerania is in a northern part of Poland that adjoins The Baltic sea and Pucka Bay. Its landscape is created both by beaches, cliffs, scenic villages, coastal forests with great Darżlubski Forest but also by vast agglomeration of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot – an interconnection of past and presence. Then there is also Helska Spit, the only place in Polish coast with beaches also from the southern part. A fine spot for rowing and windsurfing. At fishing ports you may enjoy a sea trip, it is a paradise for divers, too. Nature lovers will appreciate a trip to seal rescue centre - “Fokarium” in Hel. There’s also something for the technology –curious people – it’s a heat and power station in Żarnowiec and wind mills in Helska Spit.
The area is filled with heritage sites: medieval churches, castles, old housing estates in Puck or Hel, palaces in Rzucewo or Krokowa, the lighthouse in Rozewie Cape. Besides the already mentioned spots, it’s worth visiting Wiślany Bay and Frombork town nearby – the town of Mikołaj Kopernik, the author of On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres. The Great Masurian Lake District is situated ca. 250 km from Warsaw, it’s a touristic region yet still slightly wild-natured. It’s a residence of Polish Koniks nature reserves in Popielno. Besides spectacular landscape there are places that played an important role in Polish history. The first place is Grunwald where a battle between Poles and Germans was held in 1410. The second one is the Wolf’s Lair in Gierłoż – a Hitler’s quarter in the middle of a forest. The area is too a home of Bishops of Warmia castle in Reszel. However the pearl of The Great Masurian Lake District is Mikołajki by Mikołajskie and Tałta Lakes.
